6 Reasons Why You Should Include Protein Coffee In Your Diet

I love coffee more than just your average Joe. It’s a passion of mine.

I also love making my own protein shake after an intense workout. Staying healthy and active is very important to me, so I ensure I do all I can to maximize my results.

After doing some research, I learned that if you put the two together, you can create an awesome recovery drink!

Not once did it cross my mind, but it turns out there are loads of health benefits, not to mention the added convenience!

I must also admit, it doesn’t taste anywhere near as strange as I thought it might. This was one of my major concerns because I didn’t want the protein to overpower the entire drink.

So, with all this in mind, here are six reasons why you should include protein coffee in your diet.

Improved Strength And Endurance

By taking a mixture of coffee and protein powder, you get a much better, more intense workout. This is because the coffee’s heat allows the protein to be absorbed into the body and muscles much faster.

The caffeine from the coffee then provides the energy to last longer while the protein gives your muscles more strength to lift heavier weights.

Coffee can also increase blood pressure, a result of the caffeine fitting with certain receptors in the brain, known as adenosine. This prevents you from feeling tired and will actively encourage the brain to release other hormones that promote stimulants such as dopamine.

I personally like to take mine about an hour before my workout. This gives my body enough time to digest and provide me with a boost of energy. I’ve recently tried the Ultimate Nutrition coffee, and I have to say the Mocha Latte is my personal favorite.

However, if I ever run out or I forget to pack it, I can just order protein coffee from Starbucks, which is equally delicious.

Benefits Post Workout

Please note that it’s not advised to drink coffee on its own immediately after your workout. This is because coffee requires your body to break down energy.

However, this is where the advantage of combining it with your protein shake before your workout comes in.

When you ingest protein, it naturally encourages your body to enter an anabolic state. This means that instead of breaking down existing muscle to get energy and repair muscles, it uses the fresh source of protein to do it.

We have already established that when you mix protein with your nice warm coffee, it can be released and absorbed into your body faster compared to taking it with a cold glass of water or milk.

Once your workout has finished, the protein gets used to build and repair your muscles straight away, rebalancing hormone levels in the process.

Improved Mental Health

Mental health is just as important as physical health, so it’s important that you pay as much attention to your mind as you do to the rest of your body.

Since coffee links to adenosine receptors in the brain, it helps to trigger stimulants like dopamine that make you feel good.

Whey protein can also increase the production of serotonin, another hormone that makes you feel happy.

By having protein coffee in your diet, the overall function of your brain improves. There have even been suggestions that this will help delay the effects of Alzheimer’s diseases.

Better Cardiovascular Health And Improved Weight Loss

Although protein with coffee doesn’t create weight loss itself, it certainly helps.

If you’re anything like me, you either don’t have time for breakfast or you find that you’re never that hungry in the morning to eat it. However, if you miss breakfast too often, you can slow down your metabolism.

Obviously, this isn’t great.  So to improve this situation, you can change up your coffee routine.  Protein powder coffee has the benefits of simultaneously increasing metabolism and suppressing appetite.

Protein shakes are one of the best ways to help you lose weight. Combine protein with coffee and you’ll be well on your way to living a much healthier lifestyle. You could even mix in a multivitamin, too, to keep you on the right path.

Furthermore, some research suggests that coffee increases blood flow to the peripheral nervous system. This means more blood flows through the body’s smaller blood vessels, improving overall circulation. This then increases blood pressure and improves the health of your heart.

Another helpful benefit is that protein lowers blood pressure in people who are overweight, also improving cardiovascular health.

By combining the two, you get the benefits of both worlds.

It Is An Antioxidant And Anti-Inflammatory Booster

The purpose of antioxidants is to neutralize free radicals. Free radicals are responsible for causing damage to cells in the body, leading to illnesses that can cause serious health risks.

One of the body’s main responses to damaged cells is inflammation. However, without a healthy immune system, too much inflammation can lead to illness and disease.

Coffee protein shakes can help with both of these two conditions. This is because both coffee and whey protein supplements contain many chemicals that fight against the production of free radicals and inflammation.

For anyone working out, you will experience a reduction of inflammation around your muscles. This means better lifting and enhanced recovery.

Prevents Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic syndrome develops before you start suffering from chronic illnesses. This includes conditions such as heart disease and Type 2 diabetes. Both are caused by diets containing high levels of fat and sugar.

However, some studies show that coffee and protein can help counteract this condition.

For example, one study shows that taking acute doses of caffeine resulted in a reduction to insulin sensitivity in healthy subjects.

Another study has shown that people suffering from metabolic syndrome that switched to a diet high in protein actually reversed the condition; they no longer had many of the symptoms that suggested they had it.
