How to Turn Shatter to Vape Oil

Vaping has become a huge industry over the past few years, with more people choosing to vape over traditional smoking. While there are many kits out there on the market, and stores selling vaping juice, many have taken the choice to start making their own e-liquid. While the methods are fairly simple, there are some things you need to know before you get started. Here are the best ways to turn shatter into oil.

What are Concentrates and Extracts?

There is a distinct difference between concentrates and extracts, and this can have an effect on how you create the vape juice. These vape juices can be used through different vaporizers, check the best vaporizers option here.

Concentrates are the best parts of something without unnecessary parts. If you think of fruit juice, this is often made from concentrate and has all the goodness and taste of the fruit, but without the seeds or the pulp. The same can be said about the concentrate that is used for vape juice. It will contain all the compounds and parts you need, but won’t have the excess parts that are not desirable.

Extracts are slightly different in the way they are processed, in that they use a solvent to extract the best parts from the plant. This process is used for vanilla pods to give us the vanilla extract.

Types of Concentrate

The concentrate is the type of substance you need to create your vape juice, so you need to find one that works for you. There are many types of concentrate, and they all have slightly different properties. It is a good idea to try the different types of concentrate, before choosing the one that gives you the best results.

Here are some examples of the types of concentrate that you can use:

  • Shatter

As the name suggests, this concentrate is brittle and has a glass-like quality. They usually come in a golden yellow color and can sometimes be softer like toffee.

  • Budder

This type of concentrate is more of a liquid consistency, similar to soft butter. Because of this, many people will spread it on a dab ring as a way of using it.

  • Crumble

Crumble is a slightly thicker version of budder but has a brittle quality to it. The colour is usually paler than shatter and has a waxy-like texture.

  • Sugar

Although the name suggests a dry crystal substance, sugar is wetter than that. The color of sugar can vary from a bright yellow to a deeper orange or amber.

  • Sauce

Similar in consistency to squeezy mustard, the sauce also has a crystalline quality similar to sugar.

As you can see, many of these terpenes concentrates are a progression of stages from shatter to sauce. It means you can choose the type that best suits your needs.

Recipe

This recipe is the main way that you can turn concentrate into a vape juice at home. This is a slow method, but it can get better results.

You’ll need:

½ gram or more of concentrate

Small mixing glass

A container to boil water

Dab tool or paper clip

A syringe to fill the cartridges

Mixing juice ( this can be bought pre-mixed, or you can make your own using Propylene glycol and Vegetable glycerine. The safe ratio is either 50:50 or 80:20)

  1. Make a double boiler using the container with a little water and the small glass inside.
  2. Heat water to approximately 175 degrees Fahrenheit using a cooking thermometer. It doesn’t have to be the exact temperature.
  3. Add the concentrate to the empty glass and allow the water underneath to melt it.
  4. Add the mixing juice at a ratio of 1ml to 1 gram of concentrate.
  5. Allow the mixture to get back up to temperature. This can vary according to the type of concentrate.
  6. Use a syringe to collect the juice and put it into the cartridges.
  7. Leave the oil for around 15 minutes to cool before use.

Once the oil has had time to sit in the cartridge, it will be soaked into the wick and can be used. For those people that want to know what goes into their vape juice, the homemaking method is the best way to go. You can also add flavouring towards the end of the process if you wish.
